underwater shot of native oyster

On Monday, January 16, volunteers from the Port River Shellfish Restoration Project had a field trip to the northern breakwater. They canoed straight across from the boat ramp near RSAYS and then climbed over the breakwater and walked out on a low tide.

Tony Robinson took this underwater image of the leading edge of an ostrea angasi.  This reasonably large sized specimen was discovered on a small rocky outcrop in less than one metre of water at low tide and was situated on the sandflat several hundred metres from the north breakwater.
