Our oysters have spawned

Members of the Port River Shellfish Restoration Project have been delighted to find the spat of Ostrea angasi, and spat of other shellfish, on our settlement plates (terracotta tiles) and oyster baskets.

Steve Bowley of Pacific Estate Oysters, who supplied our angasi in May 2016, has advised us that the golden shells are angasi spat. At the CYC and RSAYS we have transferred some spat (angasi and others) to socks within baskets, to see if they will survive and grow.
