The 20th International Conference on Shellfish Restoration was held at Nelson Bay, NSW from April 27th to 30th.
The program included updates on research and restoration projects from Australia, New Zealand, USA, UK and Europe.
Catherine McMahon attended the conference online for ECF and presented an update entitled
Port River Restoration Projects – Five Years of Community Action
Particularly inspiring to Catherine were presentations about restoration projects at sites valued by locals, involving strong community engagement.
Such projects included mussel restoration projects in New Zealand, the Billion Oyster Project in the Hudson River in New York, shellfish reef restoration in Port Phillip Bay, Victoria and a series of research and community driven projects in Pumicestone Passage, Qld.
A video of the ECF presentation (slightly modified for local audiences) is available on ECF’s YouTube channel.
