On January 16th, ECF and North Haven Surf Life Saving Club launched a GoFundMe campaign to raise funds for a Scoping Study for an Olympic size Port River Swimming Pool.

To date $2,630 of the target of $10,300 has been raised.

Flinders Ports Holdings kindly provided $1,000 and there have been 27 generous individual donors.

Some of the objectives of a Port River Swimming pool include

  • connecting local people to each other and the environment
  • encouraging the wider community to visit the Port River and enjoy its facilities
  • encouraging community support and care for the Port River as a living system
  • running programs that are accessible, affordable and safe, such as Vacswim, school water safety programs, learn to swim, exercise for seniors, community events
  • encouraging a variety of sporting codes to use the river e.g surf lifesaving, swimming, paddling and triathlon

The Scoping Study will be conducted by UNSW’s Water Research Centre which has more than 55 years experience in planning coastal pools.

The Suzanne Elliott Charitable Trust kindly provided the initial $10K of the $20K cost of the feasibility study and the GoFundMe campaign seeks further support so the study can proceed.

We would like to acknowledge the support of the Suzanne Elliott Charitable Trust. The vision of the Trust is creation of connected, equitable and generous communities. The Trust has been made possible as a result of the generosity and commitment to social justice of the late Suzanne Elliott.
