OzFish volunteers building Robust Oyster Baskets

The Port River Shellfish Restoration Project began in January 2016 and has been led by ECF since then.

In 2021, ECF and OzFish decided to collaborate and deploy OzFish’s Robust Oyster Baskets in the Port River to extend ECF’s trial shellfish reefs, in the inner harbour.

While permit delays prevented the trial of the ROBs in 2021, in 2022 it was decided that OzFish would lead the Port River Shellfish Restoration Project.

During the recent Federal election, with ECF support, OzFish secured in principle support from the new Commonwealth Government for several years funding, for Port River shellfish projects, through the ALP’s Urban Catchments and Waterways program.

OzFish has three sessions planned from November 14th to 16th to build the ROBs, and they will then be deployed:

Port River R.O.B. Building Working Bee – Session One | OzFish Unlimited

Port River R.O.B. Building Working Bee – Session Two | OzFish Unlimited

Port River R.O.B. Building Working Bee – Session Three | OzFish Unlimited

Anyone interested in supporting this work is encouraged to register for these sessions.

This OzFish project is supported by Estuary Care Foundation, Environment Protection Authority (EPA), Department of Environment and Heritage, Renewal SA, Primary Industries and Regions South Australia (PIRSA) and Flinders Port Holdings.
