ECF Annual Report 2022-23

ECF outlines in The Annual Report 2022-23 that 2022-23 was a transition year for ECF, with the Board planning for the closure of the Foundation in late 2023, while still seeking to advance habitat restoration in the Estuary and contribute to community education and advocacy.

ECF is very conscious that larger scale restoration projects are needed in the Estuary. However as a wholly volunteer operated NGO, it no longer seemed feasible to develop and implement such projects, assuming funds could be secured.

ECF is concerned that community voices are needed to advocate for the Estuary, and with the Aboriginal Cultural Centre due to begin operating in 2025, there could a gap until then in community education.

Consequently, ECF’s advocacy and community education roles will from 2024 be provided by Friends of the Port River, a new unincorporated group that Catherine McMahon will coordinate for several years.
